I’ve also been adding a couple of extra elements to the site, including a taoyoyo updates email option (right). I wanted to keep the downloads completely free (ie: without the ‘payment’ of an email address) but anyone who would genuinely like news and release info can sign up here.
The second shout goes out to Olaf in Germany, who has played several taoyoyo tracks this past month on his weekly radio shows on JVR Network. (Tune in tomorrow between 4-8pm CET for the second part of a 15th anniversary special).
The next retroyoyo EP, entitled ‘Dark Side of the Fours’ has come back from mastering. Another great job from Gregg at Hermetech!
This EP is somewhat darker than the ‘Jello EP’, featuring three slices of four on the floor abstract tribal techno.
The tracklisting is:
1. Pan’s People
2. Let Me In.
3. Diving for Pearls
No firm release date yet, artwork still to be designed. Probably at the end of September.
For anyone in the UK, there might be a sneak preview of ‘Let Me In’ in Andy’s Dialog> set at the Festinho Festival in Bedfordshire on Saturday night. I believe he’s playing in the AV Tent at 9.30pm. Be sure to also shout for ‘Fuck Yer Barbie’ (especially if it’s a downtempo set).
They’ll be another track added to the ‘Doggybag’ compilation in the next week so stay tuned.
A quick post to mention that the original version of ‘Bike’ has been added to the ‘Doggybag’ compilation. It is available to download here along with the freshly-designed artwork (above).
I’ve also added some minor updates to the site — new About and History pages, more to come in the near future.
After some unexpected fun with DNS settings and custom domains, I’m pleased to annouce the ‘Jello EP’ is finally available as a free download here. (Many thanks to Shawn at Bandcamp for suggesting to add the dot).
The first in a series of retroyoyo releases, this EP features 3 previously unreleased tracks by myself and Andy, dating back to our final sessions in 2003.
As a bonus we’ve included alternative versions of ‘Hazy’ and ‘Electrocute’. These were reworked at a later date by Andy (Dialog>). There’s also downloadable PDF artwork if that’s your thing.
For the genre-obsessed of you, we lovingly christened these tracks ‘cheeky house’. We’re hoping they might make your feet smile. Enjoy.
Finally, I’ll be adding some new content to the site and one or two new doggybag tracks in the next couple of weeks to the site so keep ‘em peeled.
With the release date of the ‘Jello EP’ running behind schedule* I thought I’d offer a couple of free downloads in the interim.
When completed ‘Doggybag’ will be a pretty thorough compilation of previously unreleased tracks and mixes dating back from the sessions with Andy in 2003. I’ll be continuing to add to this until the bag is full.
First up we have ‘Flood’: An (over)-ambitious trippy-hop electronica piano waltz that heads into further unexpected territory. Andy said that he has yet to find anyone he’s played it to that likes it so being a contrary bugger I thought I’d set it free. In retrospect I think there’s a subconscious nod to Colin Newman’s ‘Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish’ album going down here.
‘Low’: This is the original version of the track that appeared on ‘Music For Imaginary Movies’. There are a few elements here that didn’t make it to Andy’s mix that I personally preferred. Definitely one of my favorite self-penned tracks. It almost had a vocal at one point… (I had two great lines written) but in the end the track said everything without them.
Once again, many thanks to Gregg at Hermetech for the grand mastering job.
* The Jello EP should be out for the end of June. We’re planning on shooting the artwork for all the EPs in this series at once, which along with working out how to mod the website to my satisfaction and integrate and design a store page has put things behind schedule. (That and recording/filming Andy’s 40th birthday video, which might be released to an unsuspecting YouTube audience in the near future).
